No pictures please!

Thirty-eight days: 15 giftees: 1 crafter.

Sorry I can't show pics of the 7 items I've made so far, but some of my readers ARE giftees! Suffice to say, I'm enjoying making little gifts for the people closest to my heart and I'm actually at times feeling really, really smug. I just can't help it. I see the hype and commercialism surrounding Christmas and I feel ill. It isn't right.

At the beginning of the year I convinced myself that I would make all my gifts this year. I started out with good intentions and high energy and got one item made. After that I fizzled out. As the weeks, then months, flew by, I got into the mindset that it was too late now to start. I resigned myself to BUYING things. SIGH. Then I discovered Kumiko Sudo's book Omiyage, full of little handsewn purses, pouches, and other pretties. After that, I found another of Kumiko's books Kokoro no Te, filled with more beautiful sewn projects. THEN I discovered Sew, Mama, Sew with their 30 days of handmade gift ideas and tutorials. Brilliant!!!!!!

So, inspired and enthused once again, I began MAKING my gifts. I'M DOING IT. It feels great, it's fun, and I hope my little bits and pieces make their recipients happy. I'm sewing and crocheting, and I will be cooking, and maybe knitting too. And even if I do have to resort to the odd store bought gift, I won't feel bad about it because there's always next year to realise this particular dream of mine.

Aren't the 30 days of tutorials fun... I mean maddening... I mean fun? I want to try at least half of them... in my free time. Oh dear.
