Whither art thou, O Christmas Spirit?

In just a few days it will be Christmas Day. All over the world, both the 'real' world and the blog world, folks are busy decorating, getting together with friends and family, making or buying gifts, baking goodies, having a good time. Apart from making gifts, the rest has passed me by. It just doesn't FEEL like Christmas to me. I've got no decorations up and no inclination to put them up. There's no 'Christmas' food in the cupboards or fridge (they're all bad for me anyway). We aren't having roast turkey for dinner in the first time ever I think. I've been reading blogs and envying the happy families, the various Advent countdowns, the decorating, the preparations, the snow. I finally figured out what is wrong. There are no children here. Not since Spencer and his mum left for Australia. SIGH! I'm feeling broody. And tired, and sore. Crochet can be intense, I kid you not.

So there; among all the festive happiness I sit alone, a tired, sad, childless spinster. Bah humbug!

(Don't worry, I will get over this slump. Maybe I need to WRAP something!)

Oh dear. I know what you mean though (and as you know, I have children!). My Christmas spirit is sadly lacking too at the moment I have to confess. It could be the fact that our car is now written off and we are using a 'courtesy car' they didn't even bother cleaning first and that we now have to spend any spare time looking for a new car instead of relaxing! Or, it could be that Miss Lucy has just got paint all over her bedroom floor - even though I have already told her off for doing the same thing yesterday! Having said all that, I did get the tiniest glimmer of festive cheer when I heard some 70's Christmas songs this afternoon - but only a glimmer... maybe tomorrow!! Don't worry dear, like you say, this feeling will pass. I do understand about no Spencer though - it's just not the same is it? By the way, your very nicely wrapped things are under our tree - tempting Adam no end!!
