Ready ... set ... go!

Today is a big day: the 2008 Olympics open in about 10 hours from now. Whoopee. Not a big sports fan I'm afraid (though secretly I'll be rooting for our Kiwi athletes, underdogs of any persuasion, and cute guys that catch my eye!!!!!) I do enjoy the equestrian events, some of the gymnastics - floor mainly, and the shooting events can be fascinating. Now, if they had sheep-dog trials I don't know if I could tear myself away from the telly. Seriously. Those sheep can be right b******s!

However, for me, the really big thing about today is the start of the Ravelympics: 17 days of concentrated knitting and crochet. I can't wait to start my projects! The games kick off at the same time as Beijing (which puts me at a midnight start, yeah for insomnia!) when thousands of Ravelers/ Ravelryers/ Ravelry members will cast on or start hooking their chosen projects. I've signed up for 2 hats (knit), a pair of socks (crochet) and a little girls top (crochet). One hopes to have completed these items by the end of the closing ceremony of the Olympics. I'm looking forward to the challenge.

I've refurbished my crafting corner and organised my patterns, equipment and yarns all set to go. I'm quite pleased with how my possie looks:

nice, clean, bright (unfinished) blankie to sit on,
seat cushions swapped around for maximum comfort,
back cushions plumped,
leaning cushion recovered and ready to go;

yarns chosen;

patterns printed and stapled;

needles, hooks and assorted accoutrement's ready and waiting.

Stay tuned for progress updates!

Spooky... all my granny squares have a black background too (okay, it's not that spooky!). OOOH, i didn't know about the Ravelympics, sounds intense. I'm impressed how quickly you've finished that cute hat - amazing!
